Good News for Women: BISP Restarts Blocked Payments
Thousands of women across Pakistan are finally breathing a sigh of relief as the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has officially restarted payments for those previously blocked due to tax-related issues or household income concerns. If you or someone you know had payments stopped because a husband or family member was listed as a taxpayer, here’s what you need to know — payments are back, and money is already being deposited for many.
Why Payments Were Blocked in the First Place
Let’s break this down simply. In 2024, BISP paused payments for many women after reviewing household financial data. If your husband or a close family member was on the ATL (Active Taxpayer List) or had a job with a regular income, your household might have been labeled “high income,” even if that wasn’t really the case. As a result, your BISP payments were suspended.
This caused a lot of confusion and hardship, especially for women who depended solely on this support to meet everyday needs like groceries, medicine, and school fees. Thankfully, BISP realized the need to revisit these cases.
Profile Clearance: What Changed Now?
After a complete review of affected beneficiaries, BISP has decided to lift the block for many women. Here’s what changed:
-
NADRA and BISP conducted fresh profiling.
-
Poverty Means Test (PMT) scores were recalculated.
-
Tax links to spouses were reviewed again to see if they actually impacted the household income.
Now, if your PMT score is under 32 and NADRA has marked your profile as “cleared,” your payments have either already restarted or will resume soon. The reactivation has started as of May 28, 2025 — and some women have already received multiple payments!
Real-Life Example: Asho Bibi from Rahim Yar Khan
Here’s a real success story. Asho Bibi, a beneficiary from Rahim Yar Khan, had her BISP payments stopped in late 2024. Her husband, Muhammad Shakeel, was listed on the ATL, even though the family wasn’t wealthy. Her initial PMT score was 12.43, which clearly qualified her for BISP. However, due to tax-related flags in her household data, her account was suspended.
In May 2025, after her case was re-reviewed, her new PMT score was updated to 25.95 — still well within the eligible range. As a result, her account was reactivated, and she received Rs. 3,500 multiple times as part of the resumed installments.
This shows that not all tax-linked flags are final — there’s hope if your family truly qualifies under the poverty line.
